A Story Brewed in Space

Desai Den is a 375 sq. ft. attic-like space in a decades-old home, reimagined into a cozy, multifunctional indoor jungle. Once a neglected storage room, the space now functions as an entertainment lounge, library, and retreat — all wrapped in natural textures and warm, earthy tones.

Anchored by a 25-year-old chikoo tree that the family preserved by building the room around it, the design draws inspiration from the home’s lush garden and the client’s vision for a space that felt like an escape from everyday routine. With three entry points and structural constraints, the room posed unique challenges — but every corner was carefully layered to enhance spatial perception. Designed for a young family, the space prioritizes comfort, sustainability, and softness — using refurbished furniture, reclaimed wood, chemical-free paints, and organic fabrics. No civil changes were made, yet the room feels twice its size thanks to visual zoning, thoughtful lighting, and material contrasts.

What started as a playful idea became a full-fledged indoor wilderness — a personal hideaway where stories are shared, music plays, and childhood memories grow alongside old roots.
