Designed for a second-generation legal professional, this compact office space was conceived to balance legacy, discretion, and individuality. The brief called for a chamber that reflected British elegance, while remaining deeply rooted in Indian values a space that felt authoritative yet warm, formal yet personal.
Despite its modest footprint, the spatial program was layered and complex. The office needed to accommodate stringent requirements around security, privacy, storage, and client waiting, while still functioning as a comfortable, day-to-day workspace. A dual-layered entry sequence was introduced to ensure discretion, subtly separating public and private zones. Concealed storage solutions were carefully integrated to house sensitive documents, maintaining a clean and composed visual language throughout the space.
A strong emphasis was placed on bespoke detailing and craftsmanship. Extensive time was invested in developing precise drawings and construction details to realise the wooden arched false ceiling, an element that adds rhythm, softness, and a sense of heritage to the interior. This was complemented by fluted wooden wall panelling, which brings depth and tactility while reinforcing the room’s formal character.
One of the most defining features of the space is the set of handcrafted doors, thoughtfully designed to sandwich cane and glass. This layered composition allows for a delicate play of light, shadow, and partial visibility, enabling subtle awareness of movement outside the main cabin without compromising privacy. This nuanced transparency was a key part of the brief, responding directly to the nature of the client’s profession.
Through a careful balance of proportion, materiality, and detail, the space succeeds in feeling both grounded and refined, a contemporary legal chamber that honours tradition while quietly asserting its own identity.
