Rammed Earth Country Home: The Fourth Root

Location
Telav Village, Sanand, Gujarat, India
Scale
3,200 sq. ft.

This countryside home in Telav Village is being built for the fourth generation of the Kaneriya family—founders of the iconic Rani Oils, a name deeply rooted in Gujarat’s edible oil legacy. Despite their stature, the family brings grounded values and a deep respect for nature, farming, and simplicity.
From the first site meeting, their vision was clear: to create a retreat that celebrates slow living, earthy materials, and a complete break from urban pace. The project is designed as a 360° experience—each room opens into a private garden, immersing the home in its fertile surroundings.
At the heart of the design is rammed earth construction, using the very soil of the site for its structural walls. One of the home’s most unique features is a floating pond—a 15-foot-long water body cast into the ceiling slab, with a glass base that allows views of water from the kitchen below.
Recycled materials like crushed brick powder enhance texture and strength. As construction continues, the project has become an exploration of local craft, regenerative materials, and storytelling through structure—celebrating not just where the family comes from, but how they wish to live next.
